About

Houghton Springs Trout Farm

‘The Winterborne’ Houghton Springs Trout Farm has been farming Rainbow Trout for the last 45 years, using the clear water directly from the Winterborne springs in Winterborne Houghton. Our stock is protected from pollution and disease by taking our water directly from springs that bubble up into the farm and from boreholes that extract water directly from the river Winterborne aquifer.

Our strain of Rainbow Trout, known as ‘The Winterborne’ was genetically selected by Hans Hoff, the original founder of Houghton Springs Fish Farm. We offer top quality fish which can be sold as either, eggs, fry, fingerlings to be grown on, Sporting Fish as well as market ready fish, directly to restaurant, homes or sporting lakes.

Our rainbow trout are largely left to grow as they would in the wild across our 3.2 acres and they arrive to the customer in the best condition. The taste and texture of the fish reflects the best possible husbandry coupled with the fresh cold water, producing a farmed fish that has all the welfare benefits that our highly trained team can provide, alongside the wild environment of fresh running spring water.

Being the only compartmental trout farm in the UK, producing eggs from their own brood stock, this farm is unique with its egg to plate traceability
